Temporary road closure on Elevated Freeway (outbound) planned for Sunday

The City of Cape Town would like to inform all road users of a planned road closure on the elevated Freeway (outbound) between Walter Sisulu and the N1/N2 split on 7 and 21 September 2025 from 04:00 to 12:00. Read more below:

This closure is necessary to carry out maintenance work on the Variable Message Signs (VMS) boards. These electronic signs are used by public and private agencies to provide important updates on road traffic, public safety, community events, and more.
 
The following roads and lanes within the vicinity will be impacted by the closures:
 
7 and 21 September 2025:
 
•        On the elevated freeway outbound at the Walter Sisulu Avenue and N1/ Nelson Mandela Boulevard split
•        On Heerengracht Street at the Heerengracht Street Circle and FW De Klerk Boulevard
•        On FW de Klerk Boulevard at Heerengracht Street and DF Malan Street
 
‘On Sunday 7 and 21 September 2025, the Elevated Freeway (Outbound) road closure will be in place between Walter Sisulu and the N1/N2 split between 04:00 – 12:00. We ask that road users please drive with caution and follow all the signage and directions from traffic officers during these times. We thank you for your patience and cooperation as we carry out this essential maintenance to keep Cape Town moving safely,’ says the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Mobility, Councillor Rob Quintas.
